

On March 22-23, 2018, “Face to Face” consultations were held with representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs) of Central Asia and the Caucasus (CAiC) and representatives of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
On March 22, 2018, representatives of the CAiC CSO discussed the AIIB policies in the field of “Public Information” and “Mechanism for influencing people affected by the project.” Participants provided comments on all controversial articles of the policies and made suggestions and recommendations for these policies.
On March 21, 2018, representatives of the CAiC NGO Forum on ADB discussed energy projects in the CAiC, discussed plans and projects aimed at the energy sector.
On March 23, 2018, the developed comments and proposals of the CAiC CSO to the AIIB policies in the field of “Public Information” and “Mechanism for influencing people affected by the project” were presented to representatives of the AIIB.
Mr. Yuangzhang Sun, Head of Public Relations of the AIIB listened to all comments and suggestions and expressed a positive attitude towards the comments. He also assured that all comments (even if the deadline for accepting proposals from CSOs has passed on March 16, 2018) will be taken into account when finalizing the AIIB Public Information Policy. After comments and heated discussions, Mr. Yuangzhang Sun accepted the document with comments and signed comments from the CSO CAiC on the final page, stating that he accepted.
Mr. Hamid Sharif, Head of the Compliance, Effectiveness and Integrity Unit (CEIU) and Ms. Irene Bain, Senior Learning & Knowledge Specialist, CEIU also listened to all the comments and suggestions from the CA&C CSO. They positively assessed the comments, however, some concern was expressed that the proposals developed will be finally adopted by the AIIB Board of Directors, and they do not know to what extent and whether all comments will be taken into account.
All participants were very active and expressed hope for constructive cooperation with all parties (CSOs, government agencies, AIIB).
